Varalakshmi Vrath is one of the most important and most auspicious festivals celebrated across India especially by married women. They perform this puja by praying to Goddess Lakshmi for Knowledge, Strength, Peace, Health and Wealth.
I know many of them would actual be wondering what is this all about and reason behind celebrating this festival. So, here comes the story behind Varlakshmi Vratham for all those who don’t know and all those who are performing this puja regularly.
Before starting the story behind the Vrath I, would like to welcome you the traditional way with a Rangoli (Muggu in Telugu).
On one sudden day when Lord Shiva and Parvathi ended up in a dispute they decided to consult Chitranemi who can help them to know who is correct.
After great analysis Chitramani declared Lord Shiva’s was right which made Goddess Parvathi very upset with the decision and she starting accusing Chitramani for the verdict and cursed him to suffer from leprosy and have a rebirth. Lord Shiva requests for a remedy for this curse and Goddess Parvathi came up with a solution to perform Varlakshmi Vrath.
So, Chitranemi performed the vrath as preached by Goddess Parvathy with great devotion and got himself cured from leprosy. Vara means “boon” and the one who grants the boons is Goddess Lakshmi. Hence, forth this auspicious festival became popular and it is celebrated in the month of Sravana Shukla Paksha month of each year which falls on a Friday.
Significance of Varlakshmi Vratham
Performing Varlakshmi Vrath is believed to be equal to worshiping of different names of Goddess Lakshmi such as:

2. Dhanyam Lakshmi ( for grains)
3. Arogya Lakshmi ( for health)
